It's 2020 and we are boldly marching towards legalization for both medical and recreational use around the world. Nay-sayers can no longer deny the benefits of cannabis. Studies have been made and the issue has been settled. The strain we will talk about today is the Blurple Strain or as some people know it, The Blurpleberry.

Blurple boasts with THC levels of 10 – 19%. The same strain can have a version with double potency. So make sure that you check before smoking.

The CBD levels are 0.2% which helps the user relax, is anti-inflammatory, helps sleep disorders and have a lot of positive medical benefits. And lastly, the Blurple is a perfectly balanced hybrid strain with 50:50 Indica to Sativa ratio.

Strain History

It was first developed in the mid-90s, but there is no information about the actual breeder. However, we do know that it was probably first made in the west coast.

The name Blurple stands for Blue Dream Purple and it is a nice and balanced mix of two other hybrid strains with different properties. Blue dream and Mendocino Purps. The first one gives an energizing buzz, sparks of happiness and gets you out of the house. The latter one is a stronger relaxant and has more medical uses, especially with pain and inflammation management.

These two parent strains are one of the most aromatic out there, and this translates heavily in the Blurple Strain.

Blurple Strain Effects

This herb is a fine balance between Sativa and Indica. 50 – 50 to be exact. This means that it is very versatile in its effects; it gets you relaxed but also gives you a bit of uplifting energy and happy feelings.

The Blurple Strain effects come slowly, around 10 – 15 minutes after smoking and last for about 2-3 hours, depending on how much you have consumed.

The Indica part is working wonders as a painkiller, relaxant and anxiety reducer. The Sativa part gets your creativity and awareness expanded, bringing a bit of euphoria and desire to talk and laugh.

A few people reported that this strain has made them fascinated with things and reported that watching trippy movies or videos or having conversations about topics such as the universe and aliens are very enjoyable.

Medical Use Of Blurple Weed

Users have reported that this strain helps a lot in reducing pain. Especially headaches and eye pressure. Also, it does well at reducing stress and anxiety, which means that it is also good at eliminating and reducing the symptoms of depression or even post-traumatic stress disorder.

Lastly like any other weed strain, it is a strong appetite enhancer.

Side Effects

If you have smoked cannabis before you already know that no strain has managed to escape the painfully dry eyes and cottonmouth (dry mouth), and Blurple is no different. Users have reported above-average dryness in the mouth and average dryness in the eyes. However, these symptoms are very easy to deal with, just prepare a soda and eye drops before you start smoking and you won’t even feel it.

There are some rare incidents of people reporting dizziness, headaches and light paranoia, but that is always the case of taking too much. So make sure that you check the THC levels of the particular Blurple blunt (range 10 – 19%) and then take appropriate quantities.

What Are The Reasons To Choose The Blurple Strain?

Looks

The Blurple color is dark green, so dark at times that it is almost brown. On the surface, there is also some orange. Blurple buds are shaped like spades and should be very sticky on the surface. If the weed is grown in colder temperatures during the night, it can change the surface stripes color from orange to blue or purple.

Smell and aroma

The smell is very strong and reminds of sweet berries, fresh soil, grapes and a mix of some floral tones.

Flavor

The taste reminds of sweet berry and earth.

Qualities

When smoking it feels a little spicy.

Who Is It More Suitable For?

Blurple is best suited if one is looking to relieve pain such as headaches or muscle cramps, nausea or reduce inflammation. Other than this it is also versatile enough to be used recreationally with friends and talk about “deep” subjects and have calm and fascinating conversations both indoors and outdoors.

Opinion by growers

Growers report that Blurple is very easy to grow because it is very resistant to rot and mold. With a quick incubation period of ~8 weeks, it yields 12 – 14 ounces / m2 indoors and around 14 ounces /plant when grown outside. However, it requires a humid climate and lots of sunshine.

One other important fact is that there are no seeds available for purchase. The only way to grow this plant is to use small clippings from mature Blurple plants and clone them.

How popular is it among growers?

  • Hard to find commercially
  • Usually grown for private purposes

How To Grow Blurple Strain?

The Blurple Strain requires temperatures of 70-80F and a humid environment. It can be cultivated both indoors and outdoors. The yield per plant is around 14 ounces and when grown outside, it fully blooms by the end of September or the middle of October.

However, when grown in a controlled environment and with applying techniques such as a screen of green, it can fully grow in less than 9 weeks. Also, if you are looking to have the purple or bluish tones, the nighttime temperature needs to be -15 degrees lower than usual.

When it is time to do the curing, make sure you hang the buds for 7 days before you store them in airtight bags with ~60% humidity.

Can You Cook Blurple Strain?

The short answer is yes, you can cook with any strain of weed. All you need to keep in mind is that the aroma and taste of the weed will translate into the taste of the cookie. However, the impact on the taste is just barely recognizable so you cannot really go wrong in that department.

Also, it might be a good idea to check out some weed recipes, depending on what you enjoy eating the most you can choose from muffins, cookies, brownies, chocolate bars etc.

Just don’t forget to triple check the dosages since it is much easier to take too much in edible form because the effects come in around 30-40 minutes after.

Related Strains To Blurple?

The two strains related to Blurple are:

  • Mendocino Purps Best for medical use and anti-pain properties, headaches or nausea. Taste of berry and coffee, Indica dominant, for lazy days, relaxing, staying at home and sleeping.

Daytime activities, no heavy sedation effect, easy and light, euphoria and happiness.

Sweet berry aroma and Sativa dominant strain, energizing.

Summary

The Blurple strain was created in the 90’s and is very popular on the west coast. It has a potent blueberry and floral smell and tastes like sweet berries and, when smoked, it feels slightly spicy.

The levels of THC range from 10% to 19% and CBD levels are around 0.2%. It is half Sativa and half Indica hybrid. It is one of the most versatile strains because you can use it both indoors and outdoors, with friends and solo, to have fun or to relax. It works both recreationally and medically.

The strongest medical use of the Blurple is as a painkiller, specifically for dealing with eye pressure, headaches, migraines and muscle pain. However, it also works well against stress, depression and even PTSD.

There are no seeds available to buy, so the only way to grow it is to clone it from an already mature Blurple plant.

Lastly, one Blurple joint would set you back around ~9 USD and 1 gram ~10 USD.

Blurple Strain Cannabinoids

THC Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, is a major cannabis chemical compound. It is a psychoactive element that stimulates dopamine release and induces euphoria or happiness. THC-rich strains may be helpful with such conditions as lack of appetite, chronic pains , etc. It is considered to be the primary active marijuana component. 14.33 - 16%
CBD Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a major compound in cannabis, which is non-psychoactive. It is also proved to counteract the side effects of the second major component THC. CBD is widely used for medicinal purposes in rubs, oils and so on. It is helpful in muscle pain cases, may treat arthritis and migraines. Even Greeks used it against pain, while Queen Victoria applied it to get rid of menstrual cramps. 0.36 - 0.73%
CBC Cannabichromene, or CBC, is a minor cannabinoid, meaning that its quantity in cannabis is quite little. Though it has the same origin as CBD and THC, it is different in functions. Without any psychoactive effects, it is an efficient cannabis compound in combating acne and depression. CBC produces analgesic, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects. 0.3 - 0.58%
CBG Cannabigerol, or CBG, is one of the minor cannabis compounds in adult plants. On the other hand, young ones contain a lot of this antibacterial and anti-inflammatory component. During the growth, CBG is converted into different cannabinoids, mostly THC and CBD. The compound itself increases appetite and decreases eye pressure. 0.2 - 1.3%
CBN Cannabinol, or CBN, is a trace element in cannabis that is considered to be mildly psychoactive. It appears from oxidation THC, exposed to light and heat. CBN is mostly contained in old cannabis and in traditional hashish. It is effective against insomnia, bacterial infections and appetite loss. 0.35 - 0.21%
THCV Tetrahydrocannabivarin, or THC-V, is a compound contained in cannabis in trace amounts. Even though it is close to THC molecularly, it is different in effects. This compound may be psychoactive only in large amounts. THC-V reduces blood sugar, controls appetite, stimulates bone growth, etc. African Sativa strains are the richest in THC-V. 0.13 - 0.74%

This one stands by versatility, takes its time to get to the head and I formed a gay bubble around myself once it kicked in. I liked the sweet aftertaste and initial berry scent.
