The Ogre strain is a weed hybrid often referred to as the Ogre OG strain or the Ogre Kush strain. These are different names of the same cultivar. However, its origins are a subject of dispute. Its lineage has a complicated cocktail of marijuana genetics. The strain under discussion is a four-way cross between Durban Skunk, Sensi Star, Hindu Kush, and Amnesia. Other sources identify a different genetic background of this cultivar, including different parent strains. Usually, Ogre tests around 17-21% THC and 0.62-0.94% CBD. Also, its cannabinoid profile includes the following chemicals:

When I heard the name, I was expecting something strong but damn weed was super potent. I felt the energy leave my body but I was deeply relaxed and my mind was clear and focused. I begin to rationalize things that made no sense before. Soon enough, I feel asleep and it was a happy dream

Ogre Strain Review – Named for Its XXL Frosty Colas and Massive Yields

  • CBC 0.1-0.76%
  • CBG 0.16-1.08%
  • CBN 0.24-0.29%
  • THCV 0.38-1.03%

Regardless of its origin, one thing is for sure – the strain comes from potent parents, so novice smokers should proceed cautiously.

Terpene and Aroma Chemistry

The aroma generated by the strain is extremely pungent, which is explained by high amounts of the myrcene terpene. This dominant spicy smell is mixed with citrus and earthy notes delivered by caryophyllene plus skunk undertones brought by phellandrene. The aftertaste has citrus hints.

Ogre Strain Effects and Medical Applications

Due to its potency on the Indica side, the Ogre weed strain derives its name from a heavy body stone. It starts with a cerebral high with uplifting feelings of euphoria that can knock out inexperienced users if consumed too much in one sitting. People experience numbing waves that progress throughout the body and work as instant painkillers. These effects are used to make even the severest pain more manageable. It helps patients combat chronic aches, arthritis, PMS, fibromyalgia, and migraines.

The high creates a classic body stone that leaves consumers relaxed, lazy, and sleepy. Due to strong sedative effects, this cannabis is reported to have success in reducing the symptoms caused by:

  • Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder
  • Anxiety
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Insomnia
  • Stress

Ogre is known to boost appetite in users and make smokers feel as hungry as an ogre.

The downsides of using potent Ogre cannabis are potential side effects that can be caused in hypersensitive consumers and manifested by:

  • Thirst and dry mouth
  • Dry eyes
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Paranoia

Cultivation Tips

The Ogre strain comes with a difficult cultivation level and is unsuitable for first-timers. The plants grow tall and bushy – 60’’-80’’ for inside environments and more than 90’’ for open-air settings. After a 55/65-day flowering phase, the shrubs yield 71 days after germination. The cultivar produces 1-2 oz./ft2 in optimal indoor conditions as a medium-harvest plant. It is available for sale in a seed form.

It did not work well for my joint pain even though I smoked a lot. I felt my heart beating very fast so I decided to sleep cos my speech was already slurry. Who would have guessed that I would awaken with headache in addition to my unresolved pain.

I will always choose a heavy body high so I can think clearly and reminisce before falling asleep. Incredible body high and sweet taste that flows in my body after enjoying a joint.

Vanilla Kush is a similar strain but ogre is the beast. They both offer soothing body high and although vanilla has better taste and aroma, the effect of ogre is more potent. It lasts longer.

The nugs are a definition of beauty, reminds me of a rainbow which I have not seen in years. The nugs have green, blue, purple, and red colors. The citrus aroma cannot be missed even though there is still an undertone of skunk.

Strain details

Ogre Strain Cannabinoids

THC Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, is a major cannabis chemical compound. It is a psychoactive element that stimulates dopamine release and induces euphoria or happiness. THC-rich strains may be helpful with such conditions as lack of appetite, chronic pains , etc. It is considered to be the primary active marijuana component. 17.75 - 21%
CBD Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a major compound in cannabis, which is non-psychoactive. It is also proved to counteract the side effects of the second major component THC. CBD is widely used for medicinal purposes in rubs, oils and so on. It is helpful in muscle pain cases, may treat arthritis and migraines. Even Greeks used it against pain, while Queen Victoria applied it to get rid of menstrual cramps. 0.62 - 0.94%
CBC Cannabichromene, or CBC, is a minor cannabinoid, meaning that its quantity in cannabis is quite little. Though it has the same origin as CBD and THC, it is different in functions. Without any psychoactive effects, it is an efficient cannabis compound in combating acne and depression. CBC produces analgesic, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects. 0.1 - 0.76%
CBG Cannabigerol, or CBG, is one of the minor cannabis compounds in adult plants. On the other hand, young ones contain a lot of this antibacterial and anti-inflammatory component. During the growth, CBG is converted into different cannabinoids, mostly THC and CBD. The compound itself increases appetite and decreases eye pressure. 0.16 - 1.08%
CBN Cannabinol, or CBN, is a trace element in cannabis that is considered to be mildly psychoactive. It appears from oxidation THC, exposed to light and heat. CBN is mostly contained in old cannabis and in traditional hashish. It is effective against insomnia, bacterial infections and appetite loss. 0.24 - 0.29%
THCV Tetrahydrocannabivarin, or THC-V, is a compound contained in cannabis in trace amounts. Even though it is close to THC molecularly, it is different in effects. This compound may be psychoactive only in large amounts. THC-V reduces blood sugar, controls appetite, stimulates bone growth, etc. African Sativa strains are the richest in THC-V. 0.38 - 1.03%
