Minty Fresh: Lucent Botanicals Dishes on the Benefits of CBD Mints

Tia (AskGrowers) : What inspired you to start Lucent Botanicals? When did you first open?

Chris Cooper (Lucent Botanicals) : Both my partner, Arnel, and I have aged mothers who are experiencing problems requiring pain relief. Neither were comfortable with using medical marijuana but were willing to try CBD. We found that we could improve on the efficacy of CBD by adding terpenes and herbs, and the results with our relatives encouraged us to create these products for a broader audience.


Tia : Which of your mints is your personal favourite? Which is your best seller currently?

Chris : Personally, I use Inflammation Relief to most frequently because it helps my recovery from workouts. Our best seller is Sleep, and we have a large number of very positive testimonials for it.


Tia : I’ve noticed that you have a lot of info about athletes taking CBD to relieve inflammation and pain. What’s the percentage of your customers who are athletes?

Chris : I don’t really know how many are athletes, because we have never asked that question. Realistically, it is probably a minority since our more popular products are anti-anxiety instead of targeting relief.


Tia : What’s your attitude towards THC and THC products?

Chris : We are also licensed to produce THC products in California, but we have not done so. Although we believe that we could make some very effective products, the obstacles of greater regulation and financial burdens make it difficult.


Tia : Lucent Botanical’s website lists 6 benefits to your product. Are these benefits the factor that differentiates you as a company? What makes your company stand out from the crowd?

Chris : Yes, these benefits such as taste, onset, and delivery format are unique to us as a company, and no other company has managed to duplicate them. The combination makes our chewable mints the best ingestible CBD products on the market.

Tia : What made you focus on CBD mints, rather than other, more common edibles?

Chris : Our chewable mints have several advantages over oils, tinctures, capsules, and gummies. Because they are absorbed in your mouth, they are fast-acting. They taste great, much better than CBD oil. And they are easy to dose, easy to carry, and easy to share.


Tia : How has COVID-19 impacted your business? What have you done to overcome those issues?

Chris : COVID-19 has been a big problem for us because most of our sales are via retailers, and most of our retailers have had to close. Awaiting their re-opening, we have shifted some of our efforts to online, ecommerce sales.


Tia : What would be your advice to newbies in the CBD and cannabis business?

Chris : Given the competition, it is very difficult to come up with a product that is unique. But you need to think of a way to distinguish your product from the rest...white label is not the way to do that. You need to build a brand that represents something special.


Tia : What do you think is the biggest issue in the cannabis industry right now?

Chris : Lack of FDA guidelines means that many retailers that would like to carry CBD products are prevented from doing so.


Tia : How do you measure success? How would you define it?

Chris : We have a small business and are purposefully not trying to “take over the world”. We just want to help the people who are able to find us, and it makes us happy to be able to make a living doing so.


Tia : If you could smoke with anyone in the world, who would it be? :)

Chris : With my partner, Arnel. We are really enjoying growing Lucent Botanicals from zero to whatever it will eventually become, and we like doing it with each other.
