CBN Pioneers: An Interview With Leandro Pasztor, Owner and CEO of MoonLion CannaScience

When people think of cannabis products, they likely think of the two most well-known cannabinoids, THC and CBD. What some might not know, however, is that CBN is another powerful compound. AskGrowers sits down with Leandro Pasztor, owner and CEO of MoonLion CannaScience, about their innovative CBN-infused products, their extraction methods, and the origins of the brand. #growerstories

My name is Leandro Pasztor, and I’m the CEO and owner of MoonLion CannaScience. I have been in the cannabis industry for 12 years, and I started MoonLion CannaSciences six years ago. I am from Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Tia (AskGrowers) : How did you start MoonLion CannaScience? Tell us your origin story!

Leandro Pasztor : MoonLion CannaScience started six years ago. Back in those days when CBD oil was not as popular, I did not know I had a CBD in my garden until a friend of mine told me many times to send it to get tested. It turned out there was a cannatonic species in my garden, so I started making extraction oil and give it to friends to test it. I started to receive a lot of positive feedback so then I decided to start with the CBD tincture oil business.

As a marijuana grower, I was not in the habit of losing product. So out of curiosity, I threw the old weed in with a batch of plants I prepared for a local testing lab in Irvine, California, and a month later, my phone rang.

“Do you know what you have here?” the technician asked. I was stumped. “THC oil?” The technician wasn’t talking about THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, the marijuana compound that gets you stoned. Nor was he talking about CBD.

The lab discovered in that bag of weed was a third cannabinoid called cannabinol, or CBN, which usually occurs as a fraction of a percentage in fresh marijuana. My old plants, shockingly, contained nearly 15 percent CBN. At the time, I had no idea what is CBN, but the lab says I have something they have never seen before. So here we are as one of the pioneers with the CBN oil in the cannabis market!

Tia : Why do you think your brand is unique and better than a bunch of others on the market?

Leandro : Our brand is unique because we are a company that treats our plants with care and love. We don’t just make a product that brings in profit, we make products that deliver well-being to all. From the plant cultivation until the end product, we make our products with good vibrations and love to all of the customers.

Tia : How do you make your products? What’s their expiration date? Where should customers keep them?

Leandro : We use food-grade ethanol to extract our oils. That means our products are good for two years. They should also be kept in a well-aired area, not exposed to the heat.

Tia : How do you think the cannabis consumer can distinguish the good product from the bad one? What should people pay attention to?

Leandro : A good product comes with a good description on the box. Always check to see if that product is tested by well-known labs. People need to make sure they are paying attention to the milligrams listed, the ratios of the products, and if the lab test results are legit. Here at MoonLion CannaScience we have six years of complete test results.

Tia : Do you extract oil from the flower yourselves? Do you have any specific approaches, if so?

Leandro : Yes, we do extract our oils. We always use food-graded ethanol.

Tia : What’s your best-selling product and why do you think that one is such a hit?

Leandro : Our best-selling product is our CBN. We are one of the pioneers of the CBN game. We age the flower for two years to make the most natural and perfect CBN oil.

Tia : What’s your personal consumption routine? What are the top three products that you’re using?

Leandro : I medicate myself at least two times per day. My top choice is MooLion CBD 2:1 ratio. CBN at night for a great night of sleep, and MoonLion RSO.

Tia : Your top strains to smoke? Why?

Leandro : Cannatonic. This strain produces a relatively short-lived, mellow high that is also uplifting and powerfully relaxing.

Tia : If you could smoke with anyone in this world, who would that be and why?

Leandro : If I could smoke with someone that is against cannabis but now has a different eye after it becomes legal, I wanted to see how they would react after being medicated by a natural plant.
